Upgrading Your Streamyx Package

There are five computers in my house. With the coming semester break, there will be seven.

Seven computers simultaneously online, scrambling for bandwidth is going to be one giant headache, especially for yours truly since I am the de facto Tech Supervisor of the household.

Foreseeing the upcoming complications, I decided to push for a package upgrade.

If you are a Screamyx Streamyx customer like us, application to upgrade your broadband package can be done automatically. I found out the hard way, after spending five minutes waiting on the phone, and another ten getting explanation from the TM Customer Service Representative.

Long story short, I called 100 and fifteen minutes later, I am now equipped with some information that might be useful for those who are considering the same thing.

It starts with https://mips.tm.net.my/ (click on the image for a bigger view of the screenshot)
MIPS

The website is bi-lingual (BM and English), and is very easy to navigate. All you need to do if you're upgrading (or in the rare cases, downgrading) your Streamyx package, is choose Upgrade Streamyx/Business Broadband service.

From there, just follow the instructions, pick the right package, and short story shorter (seriously, it's so easy, I wished somebody would've told me about TM's Multimedia Inventory and Provisioning System website earlier), you'll end up with this notice (click for a bigger screenshot):

Application Processing Time?

The processing time for the application, according to TM Customer Service Representative is three to seven working days. That means, by November 18th 2008, my household broadband speed should've doubled.

From previous experiences, especially with thunder-struck modems, TM always quote the maximum waiting time to lower the customers' expectation.

More often than not, it would be less than seven working days. It's always a good strategy for any business to underpromise but overdeliver.

For example, with the damaged modems, they'd say it's going to be five working days but turns out a technician arrives on the same day I made the report.

That way, the customers perception on your service is pretty much positive and the service provider of business gets some leeway, in case of unforeseen circumstances.

Additional Bandwidth etc...

Being Malaysians, there's no telling when we might need to upgrade our bandwidth even more in the future. So here's the package's prices for future references.

Bear in mind that the prices quoted are accurate as of November 8th 2008 for unlimited monthly access packages, without any special offers etc.

Speed Price (RM)
512 kb 77 (with modem)

66 (without modem)
1.0 Mb 99 (with modem)

88 (without modem)
2.0 Mb 188 (with modem)
4.0 Mb 268 (with modem)

Also, if you're upgrading to the 2.0Mb or 4.0Mb package (Business Broadband Service), the TM technicians will have to make a house visit since they have to configure something for that type of speed.

Till then, happy internet-ing everyone!

Not always so easy unfortunately. Whenever I tried to upgrade through a TM shop they told me I couldn't. So, I didn't know this site existed & was keen to try after reading your post. Followed your instructions only to see:

Account Category
Kategori Akaun
Personal
Current tmnet streamyx Package
Pakej Semasa tmnet streamyx
Streamyx Basic 1.0M (Without Modem) - RM88 (Upgrade/Downgrade)
New tmnet streamyx Package
Pakej Baru tmnet streamyx
Sorry, there are no plans for upgrade/downgrade.

So, no way to upgrade! This is despite the fact that when a Streamyx tech came to my house & used his line tester, he found that my line is capable of speeds up to 15Mbps!

[Eina] : It is odd to know that they won't allow you to upgrade to the Business Broadband Service package (2.0 or 4.0 Mb).

Why don't you call 100 and report the TM Shop that said you can't upgrade your speed?

19zim : Welcome back to CekikDarah.com!

You would also need them to re-jumper the port or else you would be stuck to 512kbps

And whylah u choose 1mb with modem??? If you are already using the 512mb package with the free modem, you dont have to use the package with modem....

Chris: Because according to the Customer Service Rep, if I choose the one without the modem (1.0 Mb), I'm gonna have to return the modem to them.

Yup, she explicitly mentioned that during the inquiries.
