Previously, Ken reviewed an e-book titled "The Truth About Six Pack Abs" where he mentioned that I would be trying out the exercises mentioned in the book. Well, I have been doing them for the past 2 weeks, just to see whet results I get. Here's what happened.

Being the Raya month, trying to lose weight is not an easy task.

With open houses here and there, rendang, lemang, satay, and kuih raya are very hard to resist. In fact, in my weight lost attempt in Ramadhan, my weight was down to 76.5kgs (from 79kg originally) at the last day of Ramadhan, and its back up to 78.8kg after raya.

So I thought I had to balance out the eating with some work out. The introduction of the book really fit the occasion.

The Exercises

The exercises are divided into 8 levels where each stages there are a number of exercises and the number of repetitions you have to do. As you progresses through the levels, the number of exercise and repetitions will be more and more till you finally earn your six packs.

It's interesting to note that in the book, it's mentioned that your six pack abs will present themselves automatically when your body fat reaches around 8%.

However the last time I checked, my body fat was 20%. I checked this using a special machine that uses electrical current to measure my body fat and metabolism rate. Usually, fitness clubs have these machines.

But anyway, for now let me talk about the first level, since it's the level I have been doing. The level comprises of these exercises:

Level 1

Lying leg thrusts - 2 x 5
Reverse crunches - 2 x 5
Ab bicycles - 1 x 20 (each knee to elbowcounts as one rep)
Alternating crunches - 1 x 15
Bench crunches - 1 x15
Abdominal vacuums

Well, I can show you all the exercises, how they are done, but it might annoyingly fill up thescreen.

So I'll show you one video clip I found on YouTube on the reverse crunch.

You might want to search for the other exercises on YouTube as well because these are not your normal types of push ups or crunches. The exercises were designed with your backbone in mind.

Basically those were the exercises I did 3 times a week for 2 weeks. The book recommended doing these exercise 3 times a week to avoid overstressing themuscles and to allow the muscles to repair properly.

Results

Unfortunately after the 2 weeks were up, I did not achieve any significant weight loss which I believe partially because of the open houses I went to (after all it was still raya at that time) and partially I missed out a few important details ofthe exercise program, according to the e-book, of course.

I could possibly improve my results by,

  • In the book, it's mentioned that by doing a total body work out which includes working on about every muscle of the body, the body will continue burning fat for 48hours, even when you stop exercising.
  • Green tea and oolong tea contain substances called catechins and polyphenols, along with caffeine, and these substances work through several different mechanisms in our bodies to promote fat loss.
  • Cut down on processed foods especially fast foods. These are the foods that get you fat.
  • Eat small quantities of food about 6 times a day instead of 3 times but in a large amount.

The 2nd attempt

For my 2nd attempt, apart from the exercises mentioned above, I will be cycling a short 10KM up and down hill course to get a total body workout before the exercises and since I have already been drinking green tea, I'll just continue on that habit. This time I will be recording my weight to see how much I have actually lost or gained (I hope not).

Currently my weight is 78.8kg. We will see how I will fair in 2 weeks time.

Till then, Happy exercising !!!
