The Bersih organization has ran into a brick wall when the police refused to issue a permit for it to hold a rally at the Merdeka Stadium this Saturday. This comes as a frustration as the audiance with the Yang DiPertuan Agong recently managed to come to a compromise by allowing the Besih rally to be held in a stadium. However with the police and government which do not seem to be happy with any rally whatsoever to be held, the possibility of the rally to spill onto the streets are very likely.
Earlier today, Malaysia Kini, the online news portal reported rumours of an internet and telco shutdown to be in place this weekend. Another rumour says that all major roads leading to the KL city centre will be closed down by the Police in expectation of a street protest.
Now please allow me to speak freely….. WTF???!!!
Are they crazy? Do they know how much that will cost the people affected? I mean a few weeks ago there were police reports made by the taxi drivers against Bersih because they think that the Bersih march will affect their incom by scaring off tourists…well guess who is actually scaring off tourist now? The taxi drivers should now make a police report against the police.
I believe the government and Police have taken things way overboard. They are over reacting. A friend of mine said, if they really block the internet and telco on Saturday, she will have no choice but to join the rally simply because there is nothing else to do. Take away the internet from the youth and you with get angry youth.
I dont know why the government is so scared of Bersih. Just let them demonstrate in the stadium for a few hours and then they will go home peacefuly. Isnt that easier than locking down the whole of KL? It’s also cheaper than moblizing the whole FRU Team across KL to stop something which is not illegal inthe first place.
So, dear Government,
Please save yourselves the headache and let them demonstrate in peace. It’s not like you they are hurting anyone.
