Deal or No Deal : Low Yat

When you talk about IT stuff nowadays, the first thing that comes on your mind is Low Yat Plaza. Yes, the super IT mall houses a billion IT product dealers and you can get almost anything (IT gadgets) under the sun, except for pirated DVDs of course. I have been recently on an assignment to get a Wireless 3G router for my brother's company. And since I was there, it doesnt hurt to take a look what Low Yat has to offer the IT savvy youth nowadays.

As usual, Low Yat Plaza is always packed with customers. In fact, on the way in to the car park i can estimate  for every car that comes out, there are 10 more coming in and you are very lucky if you can find parking on the first, second or third basement.

Customers flock Low Yat Plaza every weekend for the best deals in IT products

There are lots and lots of shops in Low Yat. If you ever need something, you are bound to find it in Low Yat. They sell almost everything here. Thus, thats why I'm searching for the 3G Router here. It is not really a common item so I had to find the best shops that sell a wide range of items.

Actually my brother had already told me which shops carry the router and it's just a matter of buying it at the lowest price possible.

The thing about IT stuff is, for usual items such as processor, RAM, hard disks etc its pretty hard to get a discount since the profit margin for them are very small. So don't try too hard in getting a discount there.

On the other hand, rare items such as the 3G routers, where not many customers buy them, the profit margin is very high,so you can push down the price quite a lot.

The list price for the router was RM506 and with a little effort, I got it for RM500. Wanted to ask for more discounts but hey, it's for my brother's company, if it was for myself, I would ask more discounts. Haha.

Mission accomplished!

If you go to Low Yat, don't forget to stop by these small "stalls". they might give you a good deal too. Laptops are also woth checking out. As long as they are original products, they have a warranty and you can go to the service centre, i.e for Acer, go to the Acer service centre, if you have a warranty claim to make. Just make sure its a legally aquired product

Small Shops worth a peek

And dont forget the "back ally" where you can get many 2nd hand items.

Tip : its not quite worth it if you sell your old stuff to these shops, your better off selling online, direct to the buyer, unless of course your desprate or in a hurry. But buying 2nd hand is not quite a bad idea here. make sure they have the shops warranty.

TecAsia is a one-stop store located on the calm and peacful 4th floor.

It sells digital cameras, laptops bags, speakers etc. The good thing about this particular store is its really organized well, there are helpful promoters to help you out in selecting the best items that suits your needs.

However, personaly i think its a little bit out of place.

The thing about these classy stores are you can't bargain. The price is fixed. And i think that goes against the very nature of Low Yat,  people come here to get the best deals and bargaining is vital to get the best deals. However I can't help admiring the interior design and the orderly fashion of its sections.
