I’m a regular user of the LRT / monorel trains in KL. However I don’t use the KTM Komuter that much. Altogether, I have only used it 2 times in my whole life and last week, on my second trip, I was reminded why that’s so.
Anyway, while I do encourage you all to use public transportation, I must warn you to be very careful when using the KTM Komuter during peak hours.
The other day I was on my way from KL Sentral to Shah Alam using the Komuter. By the way, the train was so late, it seemed like one of the trains in the schedule did not turn up. I don’t know if it was intentionally done to save cost by waiting for the platforms to fill up and trying to fit in more passengers in the train or it was subscribing to the GMT (General Malaysian Time) time system .
As the train arrived, the platform was already full. When the doors opened people started pushing and shoving the people in front to get a place in the sardine can on wheels. In that pushing and shoving, I felt a hand reaching for my wallet. at first I just shrugged the hand of and though maybe its the pushing. Then I felt it a second time, and this time I was sure he was going for my wallet so I turned around and seriously shoved a few guys that were behind me away real hard. not sure which one that tried to snatch my wallet. Luckily I was in a rush and I didn’t want to miss the train, so I quickly entered the train before the doors closed, else I would have really punched those guys in the face. I noticed that the guys I pushed did not enter the train, so I’m pretty sure they did have a go at my wallet. I was real cautious throughout the journey as the train was really packed beyond imagination.
So, the moral of the story, don’t use the Komuter during peak hours and even then, be careful of your surroundings. Also take notice of where your belongings are. After that ordeal, I respect the people that have to use the komuter to travel to work everyday. Salute!
