The Swindler’s List : Maybank2U Login Phisher Attempt

In this episode we look into a phishing scam received by Jimi in his mailbox. The scam is quite convincing and if your are a novice internet banking user you might just fall for it. However, we will reveal to you what to look out for in a scam and what makes an email a scam.

The email received is as follows :

On first impression, it looks like a valid Maybank2u.com email. It even shows that it was sent by an email with the domain name maybank2u.com. This can be achieved by tweaking with the header of the email that is being sent. Spamers usually use software to do this, so its pretty easy actually.

However, each time you receive an email that says you have to click on a link to go to the login page, be careful, check the link first. Mouseover the linked word and the link will appear on the lower left corner of your browser. If its not maybank2u.com, then its confirmed that its a phishing scam. This is because a domain name is unique and cannot be used by another party as his own. In this case, the link leads to –  http://www.aconegroup.com/mbb/Security/Access.php , which is clearly not Maybank2u.com.

Its also good that Google has a feature that blocks websites that have been reported malicious. So, even if you click on that link, the website will be block for public safety.

Tunemoney – CIMB cheating tag team (updated with BIG topup fee table)(2)

Normally I would recommend using the Tunemoney BIG card because of many reasons. But I have just realize something not right about the top up system they use for CIMB clicks users. Although small, but nonetheless it is clearly cheating my money, which is unforgivable! If you are a CIMB Clicks and BIG card user, the

I’m a regular user of the LRT / monorel trains in KL. However I don’t use the KTM Komuter that much. Altogether, I have only used it 2 times in my whole life and last week, on my second trip, I was reminded why that’s so.I am an advocate for public transportation in Malaysia and

US Credit Crisis: Why didn’t they see it coming?(2)

Although the heat of the US credit crisis issue has passed for sometime now, people are still talking about it as an example of a disastrous economic management. Last week I was lucky to have been in the staff of the KL Islamic Finance Forum 2011 (KLIFF2011) where one of the speakers explained in detail

Ever since I was studying in University, I periodicly recieved mail that about a monk somewhere up north that can predict 4D numbers.
